Year 5 Mosque Visit

Year 5 spent the morning at the Yeovil Islamic Centre learning about Islam and the Islamic faith. They listened to the Imam’s wife, who talked about how Muslims live their daily lives, in particular how they pray 5 times a day.

They learnt that a Mosque has a minaret and a dome to show that it is a place of worship for Muslims. In the Mosque, they saw the mihrab, (a niche in the wall) which shows the direction of Mecca, Saudi Arabia for when they pray and Arabic words displayed on the windows and the ceiling.

The children heard how a Muslim performs ablutions (washing) before praying so that they are ready to connect with God and in a purified state.

They spent time exploring the Mosque, used prayer mats, dressed up with hats and scarves and asked some very interesting questions about God.
