SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities)

Oaklands Community Primary School is an inclusive school where all pupils are supported. We care, We learn, We succeed is our mission statement for all pupils including those with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND).  Our school has an Autism Base (Peacock Class) to support pupils with an autistic spectrum diagnosis and associated social communication difficulties. Placement in the autism base (AB) is allocated by the local authority SEND Team for pupils with an education, health and care plan (or a statement of special educational needs).   All information within the SEND Information Report applies to all pupils on role within mainstream classes and the AB.


All Somerset maintained schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with special educational needs and are supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school.  We are commited to supporting pupils with needs in all four broad areas of the SEND Code of Practice: Cognition and Learning, Communication and Interaction, Social and emotional mental health and Sensory and/or Physical needs.


The SEND information report highlights how we identify, support and assess pupils with SEND to ensure they make progress academically, socially and emotionally.


Mrs Ali Gray is our Inclusion Leader (Special educational needs and disabilities coordinator, EAL coordinator and coordinator for pupils with a medical condition). Mrs Gray works as part of the senior leadership team in school to ensure appropriate and inclusive provision for pupils.
