As a school, we follow the agreed syllabus for Somerset, Awareness, Mystery and Value.
At Oaklands Community Primary School, children learn about and from a range of religions, including important festivals, traditions, objects, stories, beliefs and ideas. Children are encouraged to develop important attitudes such as open-mindedness, self-belief and wonder, as well as being encouraged to share and express their own views. In addition, children develop the ability to produce reasoned, thoughtful comments which reflect upon key beliefs and teachings of the religion and think about how they relate to their own lives. Children are encouraged to think about their own personal values and how other people may share similar values whilst differing in others. They develop respect and sensitivity to other people’s beliefs and values. They will learn about the diversity of faiths in the local and wider community and consider the role and place of religion in the world today.
