18.12.20 - In Year 5, we have designed and created Gingerbread Christmas tree decorations! We used a running stitch for the mouth and blanket stitch to sew its front and back together.

11.09.20 - It is great to be back! As you can see it has been a very busy week here at Oaklands. We have been working hard on all areas of the curriculum ranging from Art to Literacy. Well done to all the amazing children for their energy and enthusiasm!

7.5.20 In school, the children have been creating bunting to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day!
2.4.20 The children have been having lots of fun in school this week making Elmer the elephant, creating Spring pictures and making their own Easter baskets! Happy Easter everyone!
20.3.20 Over the last few weeks, Ducks have been visited by Gretelda the fairy. We have worked hard writing character descriptions of our own fairies, and received daily letters from Gretelda with various activities to do. Today, we were rewarded for our efforts by hunting around Forest School, looking for Gretelda’s magic key, which unlocked a magic chest full of treats!

10.3.20 - The children enjoyed an education workshop at YTFC today where they met a local author,Tamsin Cooke. She shared some of her books and the children planned stories about transforming into animals using a secret potion.
06.03.20 - World Book Day!
4.3.20 - Hedgehogs have been investigating the formation of craters in Science. The children dropped different sized 'meteors' into a tray of sand, then measured and recorded the diameter of each crater.
27.2.20 - YTFC Adopt a School Programme - Children were visited today by Yeovil Town 1st XI players Lee Collins (Captain) and Carl Dickinson (Vice Captain) to celebrate Oaklands being adopted as a school. Every child received a t-shirt, some had free tickets to a match and the school were given a signed Yeovil Town shirt!! The hall was a sea of green!

13.2.20 - Space Day! Year 5 have been learning all about Earth and Space in Science and they were lucky enough to have a visitor come in and teach them even more!
13.2.20 - Some of our Year 5 pupils have been busy rehearsing for a Crimestoppers production at Westlands. Their focus was online safety and they taught their large audience four top tips when online! It was an excellent evening full of acting and singing. Well done to those who participated!
12.2.20 - To complement Science topics, Year 2 and 3 children met some interesting creatures today. Stick insects, mice and a snake were handled by children and staff and they learned all about their physical structure as well as their habitats.
13.02.20 Year 6 have finished their light topic by looking at shadows. We replicated the sun at different points of the day and how that had an impact on the length of a shadow.
12.02.20 Lots of Year 6 managed to meet their AR target. As a result they were treated to scrumptious waffles and they also had a fab game of bingo.
12.2.20 Duck class were treated to some special visitors today! We found out about snakes, mice and stick insects. Did you know stick insects have exo-skeletons on the outside of their bodies?
5.2.20 A sea of purple flooded the Yeovil Showground this evening as the first cross country race of 2020 commenced. All 43 children who took part, ran brilliantly despite the tough course. We brought home some silverware with a 1st place in the Year 3/4 boys race! Well done to all the children that took part !
5.2.20 Badger’s walked to the library. We had lots of fun hunting for characters from Julia Donaldson’s ‘Superworm’ around the library. We also had fun acting out ‘What the ladybird heard’.

31.1.20 The children had loads of fun at Yeovil College learning how to play badminton. They played various games using different equipment and practised how to move around a court!
30.1.20 South West Heritage Trust Toys Visit. Year One thoroughly enjoyed exploring old and new toys.
30.01.20 Year 6 pulled down the blinds, turned off the lights and found out that light travels in straight lines.We also experimented to see which objects were transparent and which ones were opaque.
29.1.20 Duck Class have had a great time learning dance with Kerri Hill. This week we learnt about African-style dancing!
20.01.20 The Year 6 Penpal letters from Spain have arrived. We enjoyed hearing from our friends at Donoso Cortes School.

18/12/19 - Year 6 drank some amazing hot chocolate (with marshmallows) and had a board game hour for reaching their AR target!
16/12/19 - KS2 had an amazing Christmas treat this morning as Nutty Noah entertained us and put a smile on all of our faces!
Year 4 have sent Christmas cards to our link school in Spain. We hope to receive letters back from them in the new year.
13/12/19 - Year 6 have been getting in the Christmas spirit by sewing some festive looking snowmen.
There might be a general election soon but there is an even more important election here at Oaklands. We have 4 parties who the children can vote for on the 12th. The Vision Party want to refurbish the pond, the Transform Party want a live feed from a camera in a bird box, the Tomorrow Party want a new coding robot and the Progress Party want a vegetable patch. Who will your child vote for? Year 5 are learning about our democratic process.
26/11/19 - The boys and girls football team had an amazing (but cold) time watching Yeovil Town Football Club. The game finished 2-2!
Well done to all of the children who made a lantern for the lantern parade. We won second prize!
Badger’s Class thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Gore Farm. We went on a number bond orienteering hunt and did some fun tree identification activities.
25/11/19 Year 4 welcomed Ruth today to talk about her religion, Judaism. She shared interesting artefacts and stories with us about the Jewish faith. We even got to try some Jewish bread, Challah.
22/11/19 - Year 3 have been busy today making bird masks with Darrell Wakelam during parent partnership. I think you'll agree all of the masks look fabulous and we all had such fun!
22/11/19 - Kestrels class have been sketching animals in relation to their Science work. We have been practising a variety of skills in order to make them as realistic as possible..
21/11/2019 - YTFC Football Tournament - After a fantastic display in the group stages winning 3 out of 4 matches, Oaklands made it through to the quarter finals against East Coker. The match was very tight finishing 1-1, but Oaklands did not progress losing on penalties. Well done to everyone that took part.

15/11/19 - Children In Need. Year 3 took a very interesting and fun assembly. In total we raised an amazing £219.05 for Children In Need and another amazing £193.46 for our chosen charity the WWF. Well done to everyone who took part!
14/11/2019 - Can Do Football Tournament - Congratulations to the Oaklands boys B team as they made it to the 'Can Do Football Tournament' cup final! The game ended 0-0 and finished with a thrilling 27 goal penalty shoot-out. Oaklands sadly missed out and lost the penalty shoot-out 14-13.

12/11/19 - Girls Football District Final - Following the huge success of the qualifying tournament, the girls football team was ready to represent Oaklands at the first District final in years! They showed great sportsmanship and team spirit, but unfortunately just fell short of reaching the semi finals. Well done to everyone that took part!
11/11/19 - B Team Football - Well done to the boys that took part in another exciting football tournament at Bucklers Mead. The team managed to win/draw 4 out of 5 games, it was a fantastic effort from everyone.
06/11/19 - Cross Country 3 YTFC - Another fantastic effort from all of the children that represented Oaklands at the third cross country race of the year. We had some brilliant results, including a 1st, 6th and 7th. Well done to everyone that took part!
07/11/19 - Year 6 had an amazing 'Parent Partnership' where we all got to grips with some WWII code breaking. It was a good fun but also a challenge. A big thank you to all those parents who came along!

22/10/19 - TAG Rugby Tournament - Inspired by the home nations triumph in the Rugby World Cup, Oaklands battled to win five out of six games! They showcased fantastic teamwork and individual brilliance. We look forward to the next event.
21/10/19 - Year 5 Viking Day - Our Year 5's had an amazing day learning all about the Vikings. They could dress up as Viking warriors, listened to and participated in Viking stories and even learnt how to light a fire!
21/10/19 - Yr 3/4 Football Tournament - It was finally time for our Yr 3/4 football team to display their amazing talent! The boys showed great commitment and teamwork as they battled hard to win four games out of six. Congratulations!
17/10/19 - Intra School Cross Country - On Thursday we held our annual intra school cross country event. The weather was slightly wet, but that didn't stop any year groups from taking part! Congratulations to all pupils that took part, the overall winners were ASH.

16/10/19 - Cross Country 2 Ninesprings - This was Oaklands best represented race ever! Over 50 pupils took part in the very tiring up hill race at ninesprings. We had some fantastics results in all races, including six top 10 finishes. Well done to all that took part.

08/10/19 - Netball Tournament 2 - Following the success from the previous netball tournament, Oaklands decided to take two teams to represent the school. Both teams were playing fantastic netball and managed to win all of their games. Well done to all that took part!
07/10/19 - Girls Football - Oaklands put on a brilliant display of teamwork, determination and talent as we managed to win all three games and go unbeaten! Congratulations to all of the girls that took part, it was fantastic to see so many there.
02/10/19 - Cross Country 1 Aldon Hill - The cross country season is underway! Oaklands were out in force again at the first cross country event of the year at Aldon Hill. All the runners managed to dig in and reach the finish line despite the very challenging hill at the end of the course. Next race Ninesprings.
25/09/19 - Year 4 Ninesprings Project A group of year 4 children visited Ninesprings today to work on a project with Yeovil Rivers Community Trust (YRCT) The team at Ninesprings explained about the ongoing project to improve the area in an aim to attract a greater variety of wildlife. The children also got a chance to do a river survey to identify current species living there. We are looking forward to working more closely with YRCT during this academic year.
23/09/19 - Football (ESFA) Large Schools - Despite the pouring rain we played our soggy socks off against local schools. A brilliant tournament to start off our football season with Oaklands!

17/09/19 - Netball Tournament 1 - Congratulations to the year 5/6 Netball team who competed their first match this season at Westfield. They played brilliantly with a countless number of goals scored. Well done Oaklands!
