Yesterday, Year 3 visited Stonehenge to bring our Stone Age topic to life! The children made a replica of the original site, built a wall, made rope and learned how to make flour! Finally, we walked all the way around the outside to marvel at the stones.
In cooking this week, the children in 3DU have been learning how to safely cut and cook chicken. They then made chicken mayonnaise wraps with lettuce and mango! Lovely to see children enjoying food that they were nervous about trying!
To celebrate Fathers Day, the children have made some delicious treats for the role models in their lives and created special boxes to present them in!
3DU investigated the power of magnets today, discovering which magnets were the strongest.
3DU thoroughly enjoyed the Bath and West 'Field to Fork' day yesterday. They learned about sheep shearing, how cheese is made, how a chicken makes an egg and how cows are milked among other things!
Year 3 have been very lucky to benefit from some FA football training over the last few weeks, this will continue into the Summer Term. Children have been working on moving in different ways, turning skills and close control!
Year Three visited Ninesprings today to take part in a variety of activities. These included spotting local wildlife and plants, sketching swans and ducks and finally working in teams to build dens!
In 3DU this week, the children went hunting and (very carefully) digging for flowers around the school grounds.This was followed up by using magnifying glasses to investigate, sketch and label the flowers.
3DU have started off the Harry Potter themed week for World Book Day by practising 'wand combat.' They followed this up by writing instructions for young wizards to follow in order to cast spells safely! Look out Harry Potter!
Children in 3DU are continuing to get fit by running the 'Golden Mile' for 4 minutes at least three times a week. So far this month, we have collectively run 23 miles!
In preparation for script writing next week, 3DU have been performing play scripts and practising using expression and props!
Oaklands children were treated to a show by entertainer 'Nutty Noah' today. Guess which teacher was 'randomly selected' to take part!
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Children in 3DU are putting the finishing festive touches on their stockings today. Designing, stitching and decorating all done by the children!
Oaklands Primary School was extremely lucky yesterday to be visited by a helicopter whose pilots are delivering letters to a very busy Father Christmas! The children (and adults!) were very excited and impressed by the helicopter, let's hope the letters reach Santa in time!
Year 3 embarked on an autumnal walk this morning through Ninesprings to watch 'The Nut Job 2 : Nutty By Nature' at Cineworld! Very much enjoyed by all (the teachers were laughing as much as the children!)
The children in 3DU have been learning about e-safety this week and have come up with ideas for how they can stay safe online.
