SEND
Oaklands is an inclusive school where all pupils are supported. We care, We learn, We succeed is our mission statement for all pupils including those with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND). Our school has an Autism Base (Peacock Class) to support pupils with an autistic spectrum diagnosis and associated social communication difficulties. Placement in the autism base (AB) is allocated by the local authority SEND Team for pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan (or a Statement of Special Educational Needs). All information within the SEND Information Report applies to all pupils on role within mainstream classes and the AB.
All Somerset maintained schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with special educational needs and are supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school. We are committed to supporting pupils with needs in all four broad areas of the SEND Code of Practice: Cognition and Learning, Communication and Interaction, Social and Emotional Mental Health and Sensory and/or Physical needs.
Mrs Ali Gray is our Inclusion Leader (Special educational needs and disabilities co-ordinator, EAL coordinator and co-ordinator for pupils with a medical condition). Mrs Gray works as part of the senior leadership team in school to ensure appropriate and inclusive provision for pupils.
SEND Information Report
The SEND Information Report is a summary of our SEND approach and provision at Oaklands Primary School. It details how we’re implementing our SEND policy in school and is in line with the SEND Code of Practice. Importantly, it highlights how we identify, support and assess pupils with SEND to ensure they make progress academically, socially and emotionally.
Accessibility Audit & Plan
Our Accessibility Plan is drawn up in accordance with the planning duty in the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995, as amended by the SEN and Disability Act 2001 (SENDA), which places a duty on all schools to plan to increase over time the accessibility of the school for disabled pupils and to implement their plan.
The Accessibility Audit is a review of the accessibility of our school site. It audits our current provision, concentrating on physical, learning & information access to all of our stakeholders..
Provision Map
Our school provision map shows provision that is additional to and different from what’s offered in our main school curriculum. It provides an overview of programmes and interventions for different groups of pupils.
